The method is well understood. Working out how much of it your property needs is the harder half.
This is routed across Long Beach Island and southern Ocean County, NJ, with Brant Beach, North Beach, Spray Beach and Beach Haven Crest among them. Ocean and bay sit within a few hundred yards of each other along most of the island, so one house routinely needs two different treatments on two elevations. That is not true of an inland property and it is the thing quotes from off the island get wrong.
How it normally gets spotted
- Glass that goes hazy again within days of being cleaned
- A permanent film on the ocean-facing glass that no cleaner is touching
- Screens grey with salt and sand that dirty the glass as soon as they go back
- Etching or spotting on glass in the arc of an irrigation head
The way this is usually tackled
Salt is why island glass never quite comes clean the ordinary way — it draws moisture out of the air, so the film comes back the first humid night. It has to be flooded off rather than wiped, and the screens and tracks have to be done at the same time or they put it straight back. Hard-water spotting from an irrigation head is a separate problem again, and if it has been left long enough to etch the glass, cleaning will not remove it.
