Why this comes up in Barnegat Light

Nothing on the island takes more raw salt than this end of it. The inlet keeps wind moving across the borough almost constantly, and the spray it carries reaches inland streets that on the rest of the island would be sheltered. Glass here goes hazy within days and the northern and eastern elevations of a house carry a visible chloride film for most of the year.

Older dockside cottages and bungalows in the numbered streets near Viking Village, sitting alongside newer elevated construction toward the lighthouse and the ocean blocks. A high share of the older stock is painted wood or cedar rather than vinyl.

Practicalities in Barnegat Light

Streets are short and run inlet to bay, so a rig can usually be set up close to the work. Parking near the Viking Village docks is the exception, and in scallop season the commercial traffic on Bayview Avenue decides what time of day a crew can be there at all.

Coating work needs a permit through Barnegat Light, and no municipality in New Jersey will issue one to an unregistered contractor.

What happens on site

Everything below the tide line is a different job from the rest of the property, and the constraint is the water rather than the surface. Whatever comes off the dock goes into the bay, so the work belongs on a low-pressure method and a cleaner chosen for what happens when it lands in the water — not on the strongest thing in the truck. Timing matters too: the working window is the tide, not the day.
